About Us

Ophea’s work takes place on traditional Indigenous territories across Ontario. Ophea’s head office is located on the traditional Indigenous territory of the Wendat, Anishnaabek (Ah-nish-in-a-bek), the Haudenosaunee (Ho-den-no-show-nee), Mississaugas of the New Credit Nation, and the Métis Nation. We recognize the enduring presence of Indigenous Peoples on this land and we are grateful to have the opportunity to meet and work on this territory.

Our Vision

Our vision is that children and youth value and enjoy the benefits of healthy, active living. Since 1921, we have worked in partnership with school boards, public health, government, non-government organizations and companies to develop groundbreaking programs and services. Ophea (Ontario Physical and Health Education Association) is a registered provincial charity.

We champion healthy, active living in schools and communities through quality programs and services, partnerships and advocacy.

  • Education leaders in all 72 English and French school boards
  • Health professionals in all 35 public health units
  • Pre-service teachers in all 13 provincially recognized faculties of education

We are providers

We are the best known organization for supporting the implementation of health and wellness initiatives in Ontario schools (Environics, 2017).
